Born Into Brothels: Calcutta's Red Light Kids

This was a decent doc, I resonated and empathized with the kids. Avijit was basically the main character and it’s good to see him get a good ending. My favorite scene is when Avijit is in Amsterdam and he talked about how some photographs are sad, but even though they’re sad, it’s important to photograph and show the world because it’s the truth. I liked that message and it’s crazy this little kid said that. There are some scenes that are… questionable? They start to slip into the “pornomiseria” category of documentaries. Brutal scenes, where parents are screaming curses and beating their kids, interviewing the kids about how their home life is and how dirty their living situations are. And worst of all, the ending left me with a sense of despair and dread, because instead of a happy ending, some kids didn’t get their wish and get sent back to their parents to presumably live a life of prostitution and crime. There was literally a scene where the parents verbally agreed to not take their kids out of the school for 10 years because the school will supply them with a better life and future, but they didn’t listen. I watched this in class and I wasn’t bored so 6/10.
